In short: Verso is a tool for your own book collection. Free and account-free on your device. Syncing and sharing need Verso Plus.

Who provides this

Verso is operated by Daniel Metzner; full details are in the imprint. These terms cover use of the website and the app.

What Verso is

Verso records books by scanning an ISBN, spots duplicates across shelves, and keeps a wishlist, reading history and loans. Without an account everything stays on the device. With one, sync and shared shelves are added.

Book data comes from Open Library (Internet Archive). It can be incomplete or wrong — Verso passes it on rather than verifying it.

Your account

  • An account is optional and needs an email address and a password.
  • You are responsible for what you enter, and for whom you invite into a shelf.
  • You can leave at any time by deleting your account — immediately, no notice period: delete account.

Availability

Verso is a small, self-funded project. There is no guaranteed availability: maintenance, a hosting outage or a bug can interrupt the service. That is why you can export your library as JSON or CSV at any time — and should, now and then.

Liability

Liability applies for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under product liability law. Otherwise it is limited to foreseeable damage typical for this kind of contract. Verso is not a substitute for keeping your own backup.

Changes

These terms can change, for example when features are added. The date below says when they last did, and material changes are also shown in the app. Verso sends no newsletters or announcements; the only mail it sends confirms your address or resets your password.

Dispute resolution

We are not obliged to take part in consumer arbitration proceedings, and do not do so. The EU online dispute resolution platform was shut down in July 2025, so there is no link left to give.
