Import a Goodreads export
Verso reads Goodreads CSV exports directly. There is no format to choose — columns are matched by name.
Get the export
- 1Sign in to Goodreads on a computer (the export is missing from the mobile site).
- 2Open “My Books” → “Import and export” at the bottom of the left column.
- 3Click “Export Library” and wait for the link to appear — a few minutes for a big shelf.
- 4Download the CSV.
- 5In Verso: menu → “Data” → “Import library”, and pick the file.
What lands where
| Column | Becomes in Verso |
|---|---|
Title | The title. Rows without one are skipped and counted in the report. |
Author | “Additional Authors” is appended, not overwritten. |
ISBN13 | Goodreads writes it as ="9780441172719" — the quoting is stripped. |
My Rating | Your own rating. “Average Rating” is deliberately ignored — that one is everybody else’s. |
Number of Pages | Page count, for the reading-progress display. |
Bookshelves | Your shelves become tags. “Bookshelves with positions” is ignored, or the tags would read “sci-fi (#1)”. |
My Review | Becomes your note. Notes are private and yours, not the shared shelf’s. |
Exclusive Shelf | Decides whether a book lands on the shelf or the wishlist — see the table below. |
Shelf or wishlist?
read | On the shelf, marked read |
currently-reading | On the shelf, marked reading |
to-read | On the wishlist |
What doesn't come along
- “Date Read” is read, but Goodreads keeps no multi-read history — re-reads arrive as a single entry.
- Cover images: the exports contain none, so Verso fetches the cover from the ISBN (or you photograph it yourself).
- Anything Verso has no field for is dropped rather than squeezed in somewhere it does not belong.
After the import
Verso shows a report: how many books arrived, how many rows were skipped for having no title, and which columns it could not place. If the file brought duplicates, the “Duplicates” page finds them — which is what Verso is for in the first place.
